01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The cream puff is a good place to start if you’re not sure what to choose at Kashi Ringo: its fragrant, lightly salted pastry is baked until crisp, then generously filled with smooth, rich cream. Visitors have praised the contrast between the sturdy, crisp shell and its filling; another enjoyed the pastry’s crackle and the cream’s restrained sweetness. Both impressions come from takeaway orders. There’s no dining area, so the pleasure is in bringing the sweets home and pairing them with a cup of tea.

The Basque cheesecake is another treat to take home and savour at your leisure. It’s sold whole, and the shop suggests freezing it and serving it semi-frozen. One customer chilled theirs in the refrigerator before enjoying it after a meal; another let it sit in the freezer for around 2 hours and 350 minutes before eating it. Whether you’re planning a dessert after dinner or want to try the change in texture that comes with a little freezing, you can choose with your at-home treat in mind.

There’s more to choose from than fresh cakes, including a selection of tarts and scones. Seasonal tarts use fruit available at different times of year and start at 350 yen each. One customer who bought a pear tart recalled that its restrained sweetness let the flavour of the ingredients shine. The fruit changes with the seasons, so the selection offers a chance to try what’s in season. Scones come in 6 varieties: plain, chocolate and rum raisin, as well as onion, olive parmesan, and tomato and basil. It’s a versatile range, whether you’re choosing mostly sweet treats or want something more savoury.

Among the cakes, there’s a baked cheesecake made with cookie dough and house-made rum raisins, as well as a Mont Blanc layered with chestnut cream made from Japanese and French chestnuts, meringue, lightly sweetened whipped cream and a tart note of cassis. Choose between the rich cheesecake and a chestnut dessert brightened with acidity, depending on your mood.

For a gift, options include boxes of baked goods in 13-piece and 18-piece sizes, as well as made-to-order boxes of pound cake, cookies and other treats to suit your budget. You can discuss the contents in person or by phone up to the day before. Kashi Ringo is takeaway-only, with sweets to bring home for a break or give as a present, from a single cream puff to a mix of cakes and baked goods.
